We had a pretty good session today, with 27 new members keen to try their hands at working with Vex parts to construct robots. We started with a short presentation about design, and moved onto the main topic of the workshop: drivetrains. We also covered the basic concepts of power and torque, and then let the four teams start designing and building with limited parts. Each team designed a different drivetrain to complete our challenges, and we will be building on the robots over the three workshops, to end with the competition. These robots are competing in two challenges – a drag race, and ring scoring, with bonus points available for completing bonus tasks such as pushing the goal and staying within two taped lines for the drag race. Everyone’s having a lot of fun, and we’ll hopefully see most of the participants in our competition teams over the next couple of years!
