So after three workshops, all of our new members are pretty much up to scratch with the capabilities and workings of the Vex Robotics Design System. A lot of fun was had, and the workshops culminated with the challenges that each robot had to try and complete. While the robots didn’t necessarily drive in a straight line for the drag race, none of the teams lost points for parts falling off, signalling good build quality. With five different arms and lift systems it was pretty interesting to watch the ring scoring challenge. One team almost managed to score four rings at once as well, but couldn’t quite manage to get the stack balanced. Only one team managed to push and lift the goal, but somewhat damaged their robot in the process. Team 3 took out the competition, scoring the most points across the two challenges, and won themselves some Jolly Ranchers to sustain them through First Semester Exams!
