After a strong start yesterday as first place in the highly volatile College division (with the rankings changing every match), we played six more matches today. With a lot of work done to perfect the robot mechanically over the last couple of days, most effort was spent on strategy and autonomous today. We won 5 of our 6 matches, beating TGZ1 (UT-GTZAM1 (Mexico)), UTT (University of Texas at Tyler), CCSU (Central Connecticut State University), VCT2 (Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology), and TSM1 (UT-SEMEX1 (Mexico)), losing only one match to MNU (Mianyang Normal University) in unfortunate circumstances. Our final qualification score of 16WP/262RP with 8 wins and 1 loss placed us second on the leaderboard. We were joined by Massey University 1 in 1st place with 9 wins and 0 losses, and Massey University 2 in 3rd place with 8 wins, 1 loss, and 251RP to achieve a NZ shutout of the top three.
We’ve gained a reputation for being a particularly strong team, with the goal dumper being a special feature, as well as our high scoring autonomous (when we didn’t get rammed). Bringing along lots of pineapple lumps has been a hit too! Tomorrow we will have a series of elimination matches as the 35 teams competing are whittled down to a final champion.
