World Championships – First Day Update!

Published on: 15 April, 2011

After arriving in Orlando much jet-lagged yesterday at about 6am, we set up our pit, did some urgent repairs on the robots after the plane rides, and got some rest. Today, the competition matches started, with 35 teams competing in the College Division. We faced some tough opponents in our practice match, defending World Champions MNU (Mianyang Normal University) from China. However, we rallied and came back by winning all three of our qualification matches today, against TALT (UT-ALTAMIRA), TGZ2 (UT-GTZAM2), and PGPA (UP-GP), all from Mexico. With our combination of Qualification Points (QPs) and Round Points (RP), we are currently ranked first in the entire competition!

We’ve been working all day, constantly improving the robots, and will be working hard tonight as well in preparation for our six qualification matches tomorrow, which will determine our ranking for the elimination matches on Saturday.
